A few weeks ago, Yellowman by YMX contacted me regarding a review of their product line, and specifically of the long sleeved sun tee jersey. YMX by Yellowman is the more affordable division of Yellowman that specializes in products designed for athletes with prints based on original tattoo patterns from around the world. The fabric of this shirt style is designed to be UV protective (SPF 50+), light, quick drying, and breathable. After agreeing to review the product, I selected a medium long-sleeved shirt in the Henna Spiral print. Ipicked this print because it is beautiful and seemed like it would be suited to my style.
I received the shirt quickly and found it as beautiful in person as it appeared online. The fabric is silky and soft – pleasant on the fingers. Though I debated a while over the size, the medium fits well on my 5′ 7″, 120 lb, wide shouldered frame. A small may have fit, but I think it would have been a little constrictive, particularly in the arms and shoulders.
Since I don’t bike or run, I wore the shirt for walking and yoga. It does require a foundational garment, because the fabric is thin. I felt quite stylish in the shirt with a pair of brown yoga pants. Walking, I found it comfortable and fairly warm in chilly weather. In yoga classes, it stretched easily to allow me into poses and did not ride up in an annoying fashion. Because the cloth is somewhat warm, I found it a little too sweaty for an active yoga class. I prefer to wear a tank for such yoga classes mostly, and this was not an exception.
YMX wear is not inexpensive. I would characterize it as the opposite. The price on this shirt is $89. Given that, and the somewhat overwarmth it produced, I suspect that I would not personally purchase these tees for yoga wear. However, I can easily imagine why a runner or cyclist would be very happy with this jersey in chilly weather. Their garments are amazingly gorgeous, and the fabric is quite nice. While I haven’t worn it long enough to judge the long-term wear, I can say that they wash up nicely without any obvious lose of vibrancy.
