Juice of the Day – 2/20/11

Yesterday’s juice was a very simple carrot/orange combo.
Today I got a little more elaborate, trying to get extra greens in to see if it would help this RA flare:
1 carrot (huge)
2 smallish oranges
1 handful kale stems
1 handful spinach
1 collard leaf
5 strawberries.

No picture, because it came out a very muddy green. Again, I would say that I didn’t love this, but it was ok. I am hoping that, over time, I develop more of a taste for green juices, because right now I really just don’t like the green taste. But, I did have a bunch of baked kale chips today for lunch, so I’m pretty well green veggied up!

  1. It took me awhile to really love a green juice. My favorite green these days includes a green apple, romaine lettuce, fennel, kale stems, celery, cucumber, an inch of ginger and topped off with lime juice. Believe it or not, it’s really mild (and delicious) in taste and packed with good greens!

      Ok, I just wrote that down, because I got fennel this week due to your recommendation! How much of the greens?

      • One green apple, 4 leaves of romaine, half a fennel bulb, 3 or 4 stalks of celery, half a cucumber, 1 inch of ginger and, after you juice, squeeze the juice of half a lime in before pouring into a glass. Let me know what you think!

  2. I struggle with green juice. I tried a sip of a friends juice and loved it. Went back to the same restaurant the next day and I couldn’t drink it. It tasted like what I imagine a fish tank that needs the water changed could possibly taste like. That said, I hold out hope and I am starting slow by juicing fresh fruit. Baby steps.
